Pakistan Utilising Funds by US for War on Terror against India!

There are now new records indicating that Pakistan is indeed using the Military & Financial Aid allotted to it by the Unites States against India instead of using it for the ongoing War on Terror in the Tribal Areas of Pakistan.

Pakistan army has been diverting a large part of US funds meant for the global war on terrorism for conventional weapon procurements from China and other countries. This illegal diversion of US provided funds, far more than what is known in public, is resulting in massive modernisation of Pakistan military beyond its official means, believes the Indian security establishment.

The Indian side conveyed its serious concerns over the aid to Pakistan being misused against it and asked the US to establish a “monitoring mechanism” to prevent it.

Pakistan has, over past several decades, been using terrorists as a strategic tool against India to achieve its goals in Kashmir, several American experts have told a powerful Congressional panel, warning the US against mediating between the two nations on the issue.

The Unites States has showed concerns over the misuse of its Funds, but, seem to be reluctant in stopping the flow of funds to Pakistan. Many believe that the United States already knew about the intentions of Pakistan regarding what they were to do if suck large funds were provided to them.

However, the main point of concern is that Billions of Dollars worth Military & Financial aid is being wasted instead of replenishing the exausted Nato & Counter Terrorism forces in the North Western Frontier of Pakistan & mainly Afghanistan.

Moreover, the ever growing close ties between China & Pakistan is increasing concerns in Unites States & India as to the re-emergence of Communism in South-East Asia & can eventually lead to a setback to Democracy & Unites States’ Foreign Diplomatic policy in South-East Asia.

Concerns of India were shared with the US during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s US visit in April. This issue formed a substantial part of the conversation between the two sides. Officials later said US President Barack Obama had committed to Singh that security assistance to Pakistan would be monitored and kept under closer observation.Pakistan has received at least $18 billion (approximately Rs 90,000 crore) under various US assistance and allowance programmes. At least one assessment by the Indian security establishment says the Pakistan army may have diverted as much as $14 billion for weapons purchases meant for a military conflict with India.

“Over the last many years Pakistan has been covertly supporting Kashmir terrorist groups – now they’re called Punjabi terrorist groups – to harass India in Kashmir.Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad are some of these groups. Indians regard them as just as much a terrorist group as al Qaeda, and certainly the horrific attack at Mumbai is evidence of that,” said Wendy Chamberlin, president of the prestigious Middle East Institute and former US Ambassador to Pakistan.

According to estimates from Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Pakistan has bought $2.1 billion worth of arms from China and $746 million worth from France among others. Including from the US, Pakistan has imported $5.2 billion worth of arms between 2001 and 09. A senior Indian official said that seemed to be far below what had really happened, especially on the Chinese front.

If this situation is not dealth with Properly, then we might see another Era of Cold War emerging & the Rise of Terrorism all over the World.

Naxalite Menace in India.

For years,India is facing the Problem of Naxalite-Maoist insurgency. The name ”Naxal” comes from a village named Naxalbari in the Indian State of West Bengal.

As per 2009 Reports,Naxalites were active across approximately 220 districts in twenty states of India. The Area wherein the their numbers are the most is known as the Red Corridor.Practically all Naxalite groups trace their origin to the CPI(ML).All most all Political Parties in India oppose them.

In late May, 2009 in Lalgarh, West Bengal the Naxalites threw out the local police and staged attacks against the ruling communist government. However,it quickly became clear that in the name of politics & social movements, the Naxals were threatening the Sovereignty of the country.Naxalite movement in Lalgarh in 2009 was aimed at creating a so called “liberated zone”.Swiftly, the state government initiated a major operation, with central paramilitary forces and state armed police, to retake Lalgarh in early June.

The Naxalites claim to represent the most oppressed people in India, those who are often left untouched by India’s development and bypassed by the electoral process.  Invariably, they are the Adivasis, Dalits, and the poorest of the poor, who work as landless labourers for a pittance, often below India’s mandated minimum wages. However in reality, despite their ideology, they have over the years become just another terrorist outfit, extorting money from middle-level landowners (since rich landowners invariably buy protection), and worse, even extorting and dominating the lives of the Adivasis and villagers who they claim to represent in the name of providing justice.Along with Police & Paramilitary Personnel, the Naxalities have also started targeting & killing innocent people. Many recent reports also indicate that the Naxals also forcefully takeaway children & men from nearby villages for recruitement & also harassment of women.

The Naxalities have been using explosives & arms used by conventional Terrorists. Many lives have been lost to the IEDs planted by them. There are many reports wherein Plice establishments & camps have been attacked. The Naxalities know no mercy. They kill citizens & police personnel alike.

The biggest hurdle faced by the police & paramilitary Personnel in combating these terrorists is the vast Jungle area in which the naxalities operate.Fierce skirmishes have taken place between the police & naxalities.

One of the most recent Brutal attacks of the naxalities comprise of the Gyaneshwari Express derailment killing more than 140 people & injuring more than 180.

The State Governments with the help of the Central Government have now been able to control this menace.

Violence in Lalgarh, West Bengal in June, killing of Francis Induwar, Inspector, Special Branch Jharkhand Police on Oct 6, seventeen Maharashtra policemen in Gadichiroli in Maharashtra on Oct 8, three policemen of the West Bengal police on October 20 bear a testimony to their open war against the state. They even forced the West Bengal Government to bow down to their demands for release of Maoists in exchange of Atindranath Dutta, officer in-charge of the Sankrail police station. The CPI (Maoist) along with People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) held the Bhubhaneshwar – New Delhi Rajdhani express hostage for five hours on October 27. Owing to the killings of police personnel, the latter refuse to go to the naxal affected areas. Violence is the most potent tool used by the Maoists to get attention.Since they oppose democracy, it is quite impossible for them to dominate mainstream India.

The Govt has ruled out the use of army to fight them but has announced increase of paramilitary forces.  Operation Green hunt, Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA), Jaguar Force etc which have been trained for such purposes have been Deployed in the naxal infected areas. Also, the indirect support of the Indian Airforce has supportes a lot for the Govt. forces.

With the growing Attrocities committed by the naxalities, the Govt. is now considering bringing in the Armed forces directly in combat with these terrorists. The Army on its part has expressed full confidence & preparedness against the naxals.

After studying the History & Intentions of the Naxalities,it is now clear that the Naxalities have transformed from social protesters to hardcore terrorists. If they are not dealth with now, they are going to create more problem. The Government’s attempts to bring them on talking terms & peace have failed as they don’t seem to be interested in peace. However,is it sure that sooner, the Naxalite menace will be wiped out,if not by the Police & Paramilitary, then by the Armed Forces!

Afterall, the main motive of the government is to maintain the Law & Order situation in the country & to protect the sovereignty of the country, thereby, nurturing peace & harmony in the Largest Democracy in the World.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link Now officially known as The Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link was constructed by Hindustan Construction Company, with design and project management by DAR Consultants. The Sea Link is the  project of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).The Estimated cost being Rs. 1600 crore ($ 400 million approx.)

The Sea Link was built to reduce the  travel time between Bandra and Worli from 45–60 minutes to 7 minutes. The link has an average daily traffic of around 37,500 vehicles per day, about half the pre-opening estimate of 70,000.,Although the number of vehicles is increasing in large numbers on a daily basis.

The spectacular Bandra-Worli Sea Link was opened after 10 years of expectations , delays and, of course, extensive planning and labour. The sea Link is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete viaduct approaches.

Highly variable geotechnical conditions, highly uneven foundation bed & Presence of Intertidal Zone were one of the main Engineering challenges in Foundation.

The Construction of  the cable stay bridges have been attempted for the first time  on open seas in India. Also, the  characteristics of the pylon tower made  it complex and challenging from the point of view of constructability. The sea-Link offers a new route between the island city and the western suburbs. Till now, the Mahim Causeway was the only route.

The sea-link is one of its kind in the Western Region, especially in Mumbai. The sea-link is guarded with a dedicated Police force, which is reinforced with a large number of all weather,multi-purpose Cameras. From the Sea,the Coast Guard Provides 24x7 Protection.

The Construction of the Sea Link is a proof to the increasing innovation & Indigenous technology adopted by the Indian Construction Industry. The Sea-link also stands as a Testimony of the never-dying Spirit of the Commercial Capital of India(Mumbai) to Progress at a Rapid rate.

The sea-link has set an example for more challenging Constructions in other Regions of the Country. The cable-stayed portion of the Bandra channel is 600 metres in overall length between expansion joints and consists of two 250-metre cable supported main spans flanked by 50 metres conventional approach spans. A centre tower, with an overall height of 128 metres above pile cap level, supports the superstructure by means of four planes of cable stay in a semi-harp arrangement. Cable spacing is 6.0 metres along the bridge deck. The cable-stayed portion of the Worli channel is 350 metres in overall length between expansion joints and consists of one 150 metres cable supported main span flanked by two 50 metres conventional approach spans. A centre tower, with an overall height of 55 metres, supports the superstructure above the pile cap level by means of four planes of cable stay in a semi-harp arrangement. Cable spacing here is also 6.0 metres along the bridge deck. The Overall Length consists of 4.7 Kilometres.

The Construction of the Sea-Link has changed the Face of Mumbai. The Sea-link brings inspiration in the minds of Indians as to the Determination, commitment & dedication of India & her citizens towards a Technologically,Economically,Enviornmentally & Socially Progressive Future. It Brings Pride to the Nation.
